Migrating to Seattle, Washington, he performed as an actor and Company Manager with the Black Arts West Theatre. He also founded Foxx Follies Productions, writing, directing, and producing Red, White, and Blues: A Bicentennial Statement in Rhythm, which toured the western United States.
In 1976, Foxx arrived in Los Angeles and worked with The Inner-City Cultural Center, Nick Stewart’s Ebony Showcase Theatre, LAAT, and Center Theatre Group before founding The Foxx Follies Theatre Work alongside Carl Rafic Bey, a graduate of Howard University. This nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, based in the Crenshaw community, was dedicated to training youth in theatre arts, offering acting classes taught by industry professionals. The Foxx Follies Theatre Workshop remains active today.
During this time, Foxx also formed a partnership with award-winning writer, author, and professor Herbert A. Simmons, who became one of his mentors. Together, they founded Corner Boy Productions and developed a television pilot based on Simmons' award-winning novel Corner Boy, which has been published in multiple languages. Foxx directed and produced the project as a home entertainment video.
Foxx and Simmons continued their collaboration through Corner Boy Productions, with Foxx serving as Executive in Charge of Production. Additionally, he was appointed Entertainment Editor for Turnaround News magazine, further developing his skills as a writer and photographer.
Foxx also worked as a staff photographer for The L.A. Watts Times and as a freelance photojournalist, with his photographs appearing in The L.A. Times, Ebony, and Jet Magazine. He studied creative writing and filmmaking at L.A. City College. Over the years, Foxx has appeared on stage, on television, in feature films, and in commercials.
